First Regional Joint Meeting
On March 22, 2019, NEMAAR partnered with its sister region in the Society of Biblical Literature for a combined regional meeting at Tufts University. All together the Conference hosted concurrent sessions and one plenary address, given by Jack Miles, Corcoran Visiting Professorship in Christian-Jewish Relations at Boston College.
Noteworthy among the concurrent sessions was a Presidential Panel on Academic Labor, which was jointly organized by the two Regional Presidents, Paul Firenze (NEMAAR) and Yonder Gillian (SBL) and featuring:
- Jennifer Eyl, Assistant Professor of Religion, Tufts University
- Nicholas Anderson, Brown University (PhD student)
- Sara Bernard-Hoverstad, Boston College (PhD student)
- Alice Hunt, AAR Executive Director
- Elizabeth Lemons, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Religion, Tufts University; AAR Academic Labor and Contingent Faculty Working Group
- Mary Ann Mahony, Professor, Department of History, Central Connecticut State University; National Council, American Association of University Professors (AAUP)
Thank you to all those who participated and made this experimental combined meeting a success. While next year’s meeting will not be combined, the two regions look forward to potential partnership in the future!
