2019 Regional Meeting: Call for Papers

The New England – Maritimes Region of the American Academy of Religion announces its 2019 Annual Meeting, to be held jointly with the New England / Eastern Canada Region of the Society of Biblical Literature .

Friday, March 22, 2019, Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts 02153

We welcome paper proposals in the following areas:

  • Hebrew Bible
  • Ancient Israel and Ancient West Asia
  • Ancient Judaism
  • New Testament
  • Early Christianity

We also welcome proposals for a joint paper session (or sessions) with NE/EC SBL with the theme of “Sacred Texts and Solidarity.” We seek papers that address some aspect of their relationship, such as portraits of solidarity in sacred texts, or solidarity among curators of sacred texts, from ancient scribes and to modern scholars. We especially welcome proposals from women scholars and scholars of color.

Email proposals, with “NEMAAR Paper Proposal” in the subject line, to the Regional Coordinator, Jim Bretzke by January 18, 2019.

Your one-page abstract of your proposed paper should include the following information:

  • your name
  • your institutional affiliation, if any
  • your email address
  • your NEMAAR membership status (i.e., regular or student)
  • the name of the program unit to which you are proposing
  • the name and date of your most recent NEMAAR meeting presentation (for example, 2015 National Meeting)

If this will be your first paper for an NEMAAR meeting, you must include either (a) a written endorsement of your proposal from a faculty member who knows your work, or (b) the complete paper.

We will notify you whether your proposal has been accepted no later than February 8, 2019. We will not accept more than one proposal per person for the final program. All those selected to present at the meeting must preregister in order to be included on the program.

Online preregistration will be available February 8 – March 13, 2019 on the NE/EC Region’s page on the SBL website, at https://www.sbl-site.org/meetings/rm_newengland.aspx. We recommend you preregister, because there will be a late fee for on-site registration.
